Lil Rev Workshops
Island Charms This new class from Lil Rev will walk you thru a variety of often overlooked styles including Reggae, Calypso and New Orleans traditions. Learn some fun new songs, 4 new strums and reinforce your ability to play boogie and shuffle strum patterns on the ukulele. Skill level: Open to all levels. Tired of strumming all the time? Learn how to fingerpick to support your singing by using some real time honored picking patterns like inside/outside, outside/inside, Alternate Thumb, Cotton and more. This class is geared towards those who have little to no finger-picking experience. We'll take some simple songs and learn how to accompany our voice with these rock-solid patterns.
Skill level: Open to all levels.
Del Rey Workshops
Ukulele Blues Party Jugband and blues songs orchestrated for the ukulele, with playing and singing parts for several levels of player. We’ll work on getting that old-timey sound on your uke, with the right rhythm, chord positions and where to find the melody. Plus we’ll try and listen to each other and play together. We’ll add parts for basic chords, strumming, picking and singing. By ear, no TAB. |
Basic skill level: Be comfortable and confident with first position chords and able to keep time while changing between them.
Blue Uke
We'll fingerpick melodies and accompaniment on blues repetoire suitable for the ukulele. An introduction to right hand fingerpicking, what makes a melody "blue". Songs from 1920s guitar and banjo greats like Charlie Jordan and Gus Cannon, suit the ukulele, but there are also little known ukesters Lemon Nash of Louisiana and Rabbit Muse of Virginia who were African American ukulele players and showmen with distinctive styles on traditional and standard jazz material. We'll listen and learn a song in class. By ear, no TAB
