A great performance by the multiple award winning U Can Jug or Nots
Jug music is a combination of old timey, early country, blues, gospel and pop of that era. We we use very simple, less expensive instruments like ukes, gitars, uke-y bass, mouth harp, kazoos. We make and modify some instruments (jug, spoons, canzoo, bottle caps, washboard, can shakers, box drum, toys, jingle bells, shakers, toe-borine tipper, body parts). We hope you will join us for a laugh and some heartfelt, foot stompin' fun.

Del Rey
Del Rey started playing guitar when she was four years old. At thirteen, she was immersed in the world of folk music, via the San Diego Folk Festival. She has tried to get a whole band onto her solo instrument from the beginning. This gives her music an interesting complexity, especially when applied to the ukulele.
Rags, blues and tunes of the early 20th century are Del's specialty, even as she writes new music to add to the tradition. Del Rey also has fashion sense that would make Minnie Pearl smile.
Del Rey has taught and played all over the world, and brings her distinctive finger-style approach to guitar and ukulele to her teaching DVDs on Homespun “Boogie-Woogie Guitar” ” The Music Of Memphis Minnie” , “Memphis Uke Party” and “Blue Uke. Her website is www.delreyplays.com and it has great videos of Del in action. Her albums can be found at www.hobemianrecords.com.

Aaron Keim
|
No stranger to the ukulele world, Aaron has been teaching ukulele techniques and performing at festivals since 2004. As an educator with a bachelor's degree in Music Education and a master's degree in Musicology, his true talents lie in his ability to adapt instruction to fit a wide range of learners and learning styles. Aaron is an ambassador for old time folk music in the ukulele world, adapting banjo and guitar techniques to the ukulele (including playing in the "clawhammer" tradition). |
His YouTube instructional videos have gained a worldwide following and have led to teaching and performing opportunities in N. America, Europe and Australia. Aaron is also a luthier, building instruments for Mya-Moe ukuleles 2011-2018 and as Beansprout Musical Instruments since 2007. www.thebeansprout.com. (A number of Twin Cities Ukulele Club jammers have Aaron's custom made Beansprout instruments.)
Aaron is half of The Quiet American, a husband and wife duo. Aaron and Nicole Keim live in Hood River, OR, they live an artistic life, making music, building musical instruments, teaching music, writing books, crafting folk art and raising their 10 year old son Henry. Their connection to folk tradition is undeniable, even as they find new ways to sing old songs and unique ways to incorporate music and art into their teaching and performing.
|
Mainly influenced by Depression era string band music and the folk revival, they use ukulele, banjo and accordion to accompany their harmony singing, pick old time tunes and lead the audience through group singing. A modern, home grown folk revival: The Quiet American. www.quietamericanmusic.com.
Unfortunately, Nicole will not be able to join Aaron at GMUG this year.

Annie Loch
Annie is the founder of Dandelion Joy Music and the director of the Minneapolis Youth Ukulele Orchestra. At Dandelion Joy Music, students learn how two play ukulele or piano, write their own songs, and play together with others. Students can also learn simple recording methods and how to create their own music videos.
|
She is currently a Mental Health Support Specialist for the Minneapolis Public Schools school district, and has worked with youth for over twenty years as a teacher, social worker and mentor.
The Minneapolis Youth Ukulele Orchestra is a fun opportunity for young people to play fun songs in a group. We work hard, but have a playful approach, incorporating kazoos, singing, clapping and egg shakers. Participants learn how to play collaboratively with each other, at the same tempo, listening to one another and having harmonizing parts. We rehearse weekly in a large group and will have three performances this year.

THUG Ensemble Concert
The Two Harbors Ukulele Group (T.H.U.G.) Ensemble was formed about twelve years ago by Al Anderson. He recruited some members for the Two Harbors Ukulele Group and it grew from there. The Two Harbors Ukulele Group now performs approximately 40 times a year from as far south as Lanesboro, Minnesota to the Naniboujou Lodge near the Canadian border. Their music ranges from the 1920's to present...quite a variety. They like to say they are the only ukulele group in Minnesota to perform music by Frank Zappa.
