My Mac, My Martin S1 and Me - Steve Forslund stopped by to pick up a ukulele book this morning. While here, he said he had just been listening to Blue Virginia Blues. And, did I know of it. You betcha! Great song! However, it wasn't in Dropbox. So, in typical Tony fashion, I found the lyrics, a great Larry Sparks recording and the chords. |
Ann grabbed a photo of me laying out Blue Virginia Blues for all of us to have. Check in the mirror to see her. So, the song is now on Dropbox. This is a fairly common activity for my Mac, my Martin S1 and me. I really love the time spent doing this. And, I love having the songs available for all of us to play!

Hi Tony, Thank you for letting me join your group today. What a nice bunch of ukulele players! Lots of talent too! I really like the concept of using numbers for the chords, especially on the 3 chord songs. I play with Gilroy Ukulele Support (GUS), a Zoom offshoot of Gilroy Ukulele Jam - gilroyukulelejam.com.

I decided about noon on Friday, January 15 that it would be fun to jam this evening. So, we did a Pop-Up Zoom Jam singing and playing Bob Wills songs. Thanks for letting me get my Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys fix! - Tony

Tom Sweeney on the “hidden” benefits of Zoom jams
Just to let you know, that although I’d rather see and interact with others in person, I find the Zoom sessions a good opportunity to experiment or practice in real time. Can you say, "kazoo?!"
I’ve had a U Bass for years, but certainly wouldn’t try playing it at a live jam. Zoom jams are a great way to practice and try to keep up with the song. You may have noticed my Vihuela (a reentrant baritone) and a couple tenor guitars hanging around. Zooming is a great way to practice with ‘real’ songs. So, who else will try this? Who knows what will show up when we get back together in ‘real time’? A kazoo or . . .?!

BEWARE! — I’ve been looking at bagpipes lately . . . !

Jane Dugan led the last song on the list, the Streets of Laredo. As always, she was modest about her ability to lead songs. I strongly disagree! I'd love to see Jane lead more songs. So would other Twin Cities Ukulele Club jammers. Steve Forslund sent this to Jane and copied me.
Hi Jane, So fun to see your “smiling face” on the Zoom jams… I love your zest for playing, you are amazing! - Steve |
