Hi - I hope all is well with you and all the Twin Cities Ukers. Even though we were happy to play outside and had some accommodations, our jug band has been playing it safe. We've been on hold about two months. We are back to the challenges of technology. Here's a little fun we put together. If you are still posting such things, feel free to share. Take care, Cid

Happy New Year Twin Cities Ukulele Club Jammers! - Here is my "15 minutes of fame" moment (more like 2 minutes)...the link [in the photo to the right] is from today's newspaper with the article about the "Save 2020" contest...my video of me singing/playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to my son's cat was one of the top vote getters (is that a word?).

Click the photo of Steve to hear him play & sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Once at the StarTrib site, scroll down to Tom's photo & click on it.
Here is what the StarTribune said,
We got sweet personal videos of people reading poems, a guy singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to a cat, [and more]. In his video, Steve Forslund also played the ukulele, an instrument he started to learn about four years ago when he was 60. The Chanhassen resident was practicing in the family room, when his son's cat, Penny, jumped up on the ottoman, entranced as Forslund sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." "It just seemed like a sweet moment," Forslund said. "We had an experience together."

Like Rhonda, I got by “With A Little Help From My Friends!” My wonderful wife, Ann, my family, my Apple friends and Apple itself, and my music friends led by tremendous Twin Cities Ukulele Club friends. At the Wednesday Zoom this week, I introduced our return to the Kenwood Community Center on January 11, 2021. Tom Sullivan said something like, "doesn't that stretch you kind of thin?" Yes, and it is 100% worth it. Attending the Zoom jams, working on the Twin Cities Ukulele Club website, and sending out ukulele information takes a ton of time. However, it brings me closer to my ukulele friends and an activity that means a great deal to me. It gives me some sense of seeing and touching base with all of you - my friends. |
So, I might have to change Rhonda's Beatle sentiment to, "I got through 2020 with a lot of help from my friends and that simple little wonderful ukulele!"

Thanks for the photos Mary!

When the TCUC holiday jam notice came, the song that came to mind for me was the Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” as this was no ordinary Christmas, albeit, no ordinary year. In this instance “friends” being my ukulele community, is part of what has been keeping me going during a year where we cannot physically be together. I wanted to show you my work station where I take my ukulele lessons, attend my ukulele zoom jams and gatherings, and where I go to be “ in community”. I am so grateful for this community! Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.

12-23-20 OK Tony, here’s one from a Play along with Tiki Dave last week that my Uke dog Indie and I joined. I noticed that he (Tiki Dave) has been posting on our Twin Cities Ukulele Club Facebook page. If anyone’s interested, please consider joining him for the playalongs on Friday nights at 6pm central, or the zoom jams at 3 PM central on Saturdays. It’s great fun! |
Check Tiki Dave's postings on the Twin Cities Ukulele Club Facebook
page for his jam times, dates and links.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!
Because I was leading this jam and driving the computer, I just didn't have time (or enough hands) to take photos. If one of you would like to step into my "screen shot shoes," let me know. If you don't know how, I know an Apple trainer (Creative) who will teach you how. If I can do it, anyone can! - Tony

11-19-20 Every Thursday night I have a mini - Uke Jam with a Chinese student via ZOOM. She is graduate student from the U of M. Her name is Morgan. She started from scratch this past summer and now has command of over 15 songs from the Dropbox. I met her through the Hospitality Center for Chinese at the U of M where I volunteer. She is able to play in 5 different keys. Wow! How fun to see her progress. |
When we sing “Edelweiss” it reminds her of her childhood. In China, it is song sung to children like a lullaby. I have her sing it for me in Chinese. What a joyful cross-cultural music experience.
