RUG Roots Jams

What is a Jam - Jam sessions are often used by musicians as a social gathering to share the music they love as well as explore new music. Jams are fun times to play music with others. These are jams, not lessons or workshops, but we will touch on some "how to's" to help us play better.  Plus, the ukulele is so easy to play that even if you have never played before, we’ll show you simple chords to get you playing along right away.
We’ll even do some 50's, 70's and 80's roots songs!
What - The Roots Music in this RUG jam and the Twin Cities Ukulele Club Monday evening RUG jam is from the traditions that make up the American roots musical ethos; specifically those sounds that are merged from from both old and new bluegrass, blues, cowboy, country, folk, rock, and rockabilly music. Both the Monday and Thursday RUG jams follow the same formats and use the same music. They are moderate paced jams led by Twin Cities Ukulele Club jam leaders.

RUG Roots jams include "LOVING THE OLDIES" -
A 60's tribute to the songs we grew up listening to on our transistor radios. Mickie and Bruce will provide songs from their California group, which will be shown on the screen.

When and Where - Every Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kenwood Park Community Center, 2101 Franklin Ave. W, Minneapolis, MN 55405. At the north end of Lake of the Isles.
Who - The jam emphasis will be on ukulele.  This jam is geared for adult and mature teen beginners to advanced uke players.  This UkeAmericana jam is free and open to the public.

Songs - We use songs in the 1A ALL SONGS Dropbox folder in the UkeAmericana Jam or songs provided in advance to the jam leader by email. We do not use the Daily Ukulele Yellow or Blue books.

Because of a generous gift in memory of our friend ukulele player Don Venne, we have a great projector and screen. Thanks Mary Rose! Click here to see our Tributes and Thanks!
