Learn To Play Your Ukulele

Picture

Hi from Tony Anthonisen.

After playing guitar and mandolin for decades, I bought a ukulele. Why? So I could teach my grandchildren how to play. The result? I got hooked! I now wonder if I had played ukulele before the other instruments, would I have ever taken up the others. Playing ukulele is that much fun.
I discovered that the uke is a wonderful instrument - a real instrument that brings a ton of fun to those who play it!

All of this led to me being an enthusiastic ukulele player and one of the organizers and jam leaders of the Twin Cities Ukulele Club. As a leader, I am frequently asked, "how can I learn to play ukulele?"

How To Learn To Play YOUR Ukulele
There is all kinds of information on the www.TCUkeClub.com website on what ukulele to buy, what songbooks are good, where to play your ukulele, and more. Based on all my years as a the leader and ukulele instructor at both local and national lessons, workshops and jams, here is what I would do if I were a brand new ukulele player. And, I would do them in this order.

Buy a decent ukulele - You really can't enjoyably play a $40 toy uke. Click here for more info on what to buy. Keep in mind that the Twin Cities Ukulele Club has Enya Nova U concert loaner/demo ukuleles at all of our jams.

Click here and watch this "how to" video. It is just about the very best I have seen. You will be playing ukulele by the end. Thanks to Heidi Swedberg and Ukulele Magazine for this video.

Attend ukulele jams. Seriously! Find a ukulele club that welcomes beginner ukulele players, like the Twin Cities Ukulele Club does. (If it's not fun, why would you do it?) Click here for TC Uke Club jam info.

To move up from being a basic player, take lessons. If you like playing your ukulele and want to get better, look into lessons either from a local instructor or online.

It really is this simple! REALLY!
