Why do we use the Favorite Old-Time American Songs Book?
- Many Roots sing-alongs, song circles, strums and jams do not have sheets with all the song/tune info and lyrics. The participants learn the song over time and then, play the chords, sing the lyrics and/or play the melody.
- The Favorite Old-Time book breaks the songs or tunes into two sections or pages. The first has ALL the info about the song, including Staff, Key, Time Signature, Melody Notes, Chord Names, Chord Shapes, Lyrics, and Tablature (TAB). On the first, you learn all about and practice the song or tune. Get it ALL in your head so you really know it. The second has ONLY lyrics. Once you really know the song from the first, play it from the second. This is an excellent way to truly learn a song.
